After an online survey that drew more than 9,300 responses, the folks helping Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools find a new superintendent are ready to spend some face time with local residents.
Next week local moderators and professionals from PROACT Search will hold a series of open discussion forums around Mecklenburg County, as well as invitation-only small-group discussions with ministers, business leaders, teachers, principals, neighborhood groups, representatives of African American and Latino groups and others. There will also be one-on-one interviews with elected officials, senior CMS staff and other selected leaders. In all sessions, participants will be asked to talk about CMS' strengths and challenges , what they'd like to see in a superintendent and how they can support the search.
Read details of the community engagement plan here (I'm also keeping a list of links related to the search in the right rail of this blog).

This should be a nice big waste of time. If you think for a minute that the Morgan's, Spanglers, Tate's and CHarlotte Chamber are NOT going to hire a Broad Foundation candidate your crazy. This deal has already been done heck they may even let Chiquita bring in one from Cincy ! The survey is to make local tax payers think they have input when they have a predetermined candidate already. I am sure they gave you the 9300 number as well that looks good. Just like the rape that never happened this week and the lock down at Harding a month ago ! Private Schools are gaining are brightest students.
I agree 100% with that anon9:20 said above. This is just a show CMS is putting on to make people think they give a crap. They probably already know which Broad candidate they are hiring, they just want it to look like he/she is actually what the public wants.
The "winner" will be hired in April and start in July. He/she will then be driven crazy by the BOE, County Commissioners, NAACP, etc., and leave after three years. Yawn.
More dog and pony ad nauseam. One day I would like to read the paper and CMS not be in it.
I agree with the earlier comments. The teachers nor the public trust CMS to do what's right for education. They also want the public to think that they are hiring the teachers that were let go within the last three years. Anne you need to do a survey on how many teachers have applied and not been called back.Yet CMS e-mailed teachers begging "candidates do not have to have taken courses in ed or have prior teaching experience.."
Everyone remembers the fiasco from the previous public meetings on CMS schoolhouse operations. All was essentially ignored. Clearly a few special interests, as already noted by the first poster, are runing the whole show. And it is all for the purpose of creating this "spin" for the City of Chaltote.
