New blogger: Rhonda Lennon

Welcome to a new member of the blogosphere:  Rhonda Lennon, the District 1 representative to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board, has launched her own site.  To my knowledge, she's the first board member blogging.

Lennon
I suspect she'll make a good blogger.  She voices strong opinions and inspires strong feelings,  pro and con.  One of the best-read posts I've ever done on this blog was about her heated exchange of words with a parent over middle school sports.  With more than 11,000 page views and 143 comments,  it's been topped only by a live blog about the superintendent announcing layoffs.

Lennon has already been posting her views on Facebook,  and she says she created a blog because it gives her more space to elaborate.  Her first post is on a dinner she hosted with incoming Superintendent Heath Morrison,  and she says she's working on items on per-pupil spending and the board's travel budget.  She says she plans to post twice a week.

I hope it goes without saying,  but I'll say it anyway:  I'm simply pointing readers to another avenue for information and discussion,  not allying myself with Lennon or endorsing anything she posts.  If other board members dive in,  I'll be sure to let you all know.

Ann-

Any particular reason why the Nat'l Merit winners announced on the CMS website weren't also listed in the CO?

6:32, I found a link to an online item that names three National Merit winners: http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/05/31/3280329/merit-scholars.html#storylink=misearch

Not sure why the difference in number, except that the National Merit folks sometimes release in batches based on who's sponsoring the awards. We generally try to do one big listing of all winners, including those outside CMS, but I haven't heard much about this.

Now if Ms. Rhonda can learn to run her District and do her job on BOE that would be news. Ann, write a article when that happens. Thats the most unprofessional person I have met since moving to the area some 25 years ago.

6:32, I asked around and got a better answer: We ran a list of 21 National Merit winners from around the region, including the CMS folks, in early May.

The South Charlotte Weekly listed some National Merit Scholar winners. Is this publication part of the Observer? There are finalists and winners of this award which may explain why names were released at different times.

Back too the article on Rhonda and her blog. Was it not just 2 months ago she was crying that she had no privacy and someone recognized her in a Target with her daughter? Seems like she is seeking folks to blog and or be in the spotlight. A little too late Rhonda as you have alienated yourself in district 1 with the voters. Tim Morgan cannot save you next time. And neither can big brother at the Chamber !

Rhonda will be great at her new blogging site, she rarely attends to her own constituents needs so she should have plenty of time to dedicate to the cause.

Rhonda, do your job and actually represent the people of your district! Stop playing the Gorman game of shameless self promotion!

Wonderful, another nattering nitwit needlessly narrating their ne’er-do-well nonexistent nothingness of a life.

And Gavreau was the epitome of professionalism?

I'd be thrilled to have Rhonda representing District 6 after our last 5 reps.in 8 years did such a wonderful and effective job.

Well, Gavreau was able to turn 5 shades of red during school board meetings which was a special kind of gift and talent.

9:02 p.m. I will give you that Gavreau is a first class idiot who sold out his area. However Rhonda Lennon is truly one of the most selfish people that I have personally met in my life. She cares about a handful of schools in her area, every other school is on their own as far as she is concerned!

Did I mention District 6's 5 school board members in 8 years (3 elected Republicans and 2 appointed Democrats)? Apparently, we're competing with CMS's superintendent turnover rate.

I briefly met Rhonda at an invite only community meeting at the old Ed. Center between Haithcock and Gorman. I wouldn't describe her personality as warm and fuzzy. However, she did strike me as someone with a brain in her head who was determined to improve education in her district at a time CMS's suburban areas had unbelievable overcrowding. Hawk Ridge Elem. had something like 35 trailers. All I know is she's still around while my district's churned through too many reps. to count.

District 6 school board members have as much staying power as your average 22-year-old TFA recruit. While we're standardized testing teacher effectiveness for performance pay....

As far as Rhonda hosting dinner for the new and improved superintendent: Former District 5 school board rep., Molly Griffin, proved to be a skilled Southern hostess.

Oops. Griffith, not to be confused with Arthur.

Name that District 6 school board rep. It's on the standardized test!

Last rant of the evening...

I'm sure The Most Rev. Wesley-Stinson is a wonderful human being but it's time District 6's electorate has a "Come to Jesus" moment.

9:34/9:38, you were right the first time: Molly and Arthur are both Griffins. Not to be confused with Gryffindor :-)

Stinson=PTA thanks to MR. Morganator. Funny how your comparing the twins districts Rhonda in 1 and Timmy in 6. Both do terrible jobs and if not for Larry leaving Rhonda would not be on board. I would love to see Larrys view on Project LIFT that could be hilarious. District 6 is open as Stinson cannot be elected next year for any takers. Along with Rhondas district 1 seat which she cannot be elected.

At least district 1 has a representative.
Rev. W hyphen S only represents that Ericka hyphen represents only "her people".

Rhonda understands that she is in deep trouble when it comes to her re-election next year. So, she is trying anything possible to undo the damage she has caused the people in District 1. But the people know what she has done, and no amount of grandstanding or blogging or claiming Conservatism will save her. She's a lame duck and her time is (thankfully for those of us in D1) coming to a close.
